Severe Neglect

“You shall do the same with his ass; you shall do the same with his garment, and so too shall you do with anything that your fellow loses, and you find. You must not remain indifferent.”

Deuteronomy 22: 3 Tanakh

“Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen; I will take vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man.”

Isaiah 47: 3 Open Bible

Severe Neglect

I grew up hearing the “golden rule” all the time: treat others how you want to be treated. My grandparents taught me that our heavenly Father wants us to treat others how we want to be treated; after all, that’s what Christ taught. I really thought most people lived this way for a long time.

As time goes on, I see the selfishness and vanity that has gripped so many, especially in leadership. We have neglected entire communities of people perpetually, largely ignoring this rule. Whether we use a religious or scriptural foundation for use of the rule or not, it makes sense!

Many of our infrastructure issues, education issues, and public health issues have gotten worse largely due to neglect.  Budgets have been misspent playing politics and we haven’t cared for each other. WE NEED TO START CARING MORE!

No matter how we identify as individuals, there are some things that we have come to share in common. These are the things that have been neglected! We need a reset button that reminds us to continually care, even about the small things.

The truth is that you reap what you sow. Many countries’ governments are experiencing the consequences of caring more for money and power than for service to the people of their respective countries and the world at large.

If we don’t all get better, it will get worse!
