True Love

“But if the slave declares, “I love my master, and my wife and children: I do not wish to go free,” his master shall take him before God. He shall be brought to the door or the doorpost, and his master shall pierce his ear with an awl; and he shall then remain his slave for life.”

True Love

In the Psalms, the psalmist repeatedly speaks about being freed from his bonds and set free. But there’s also a provision in Hebrew law for a servant who loved his Master and wanted to remain his servant.

Exodus 21 gave specific rules for how servants/slaves were to be treated. But a slave could opt – choose to remain a servant. Exodus 21:5-6 describes this pact that was sealed with the slave agreeing to be pierced with an awl in his ear.

I am as that servant to our Father. I delight in – I like to do his will and live according to his ways. Although sometimes I make it harder than it has to be, what makes it great is that he really loves me! The Father has pierced my heart with his law, with his word, and with his love. I am his FOREVER!

“I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.”

Psalm 40:8
