The Weightier Matters

Adjusting Priorities

In Lost in Translation, I present several scriptures in order to highlight how far away we’ve actually deviated from following them in practice. Taking a close look at the words of Yeshua, the “weightier matters” that had been omitted were law, judgment, mercy and faith. Unfortunately, we still largely neglect and even omit these from our daily lives as Americans.

Part of what has been lost in translation is the true application of “law” from the Hebraic perspective. “Law” is actually an inadequate word to describe or define Torah. The Torah of the Father is broad and perfect; it cannot be contained in mere static rules of behavior. I believe law or Torah to be first in the list because it denotes relationship with the Father and cultivation of the ability to be guided by his way.

Beginning with Torah and connection to the Father, judgment, mercy and faith are undoubtedly changed for the better. These, when cultivated, teach us to remain humble, honest, and patient through any and every situation that we endure in life.

Turning the Corner

  • Build honest relationships that outweigh connections that exist for personal gain
  • Allow honest self-assessment to drive the continual effort to re-establish the right motives
  • Know Yourself!

“Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy and faith. These ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.”

Matthew 23: 23-24
