Good Judgment

Good Judgment

Be honest!

“You shall not steal; you shall not deal deceitfully or falsely with one another. You shall not swear falsely by my name: I am the Lord”

Leviticus 19: 11-12

Be just!

“You shall not judge unfairly; you shall show no partiality and you shall not take bribes. For bribes blind the eyes of the discerning and upset the plea of the just. Justice, justice you shall pursue that you may thrive and occupy the land that the Lord your God is giving you.”

Deuteronomy 16: 19-20

be true!

“You shall not falsify measures of length, weight, or capacity. You shall have an honest balance, honest weights, an honest ephah, and an honest hin.”

Leviticus 19: 35

Righteous

Judgment

Doing it Right!

The definition of judgment as I mean it here comes from the Hebrew word ta’am. My choice of this word, as there is more than one Hebrew word for judgment, comes from Psalm 119: 66, “…teach me good judgment and knowledge for I have believed thy commandments.” This word denotes good discernment and describes one’s taste and perception in making choices.

Righteousness and judgment go hand in hand. If your intentions are righteous, your choices and discernment will be too. This is what makes a relationship with the Father a necessity! Every situation is different and requires our ability to discern and make good choices in the moment. This reveals true sin as we miss the mark often by making choices that lack in some way or another.

“The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment.”

Psalm 37: 30

“Therefore, I love thy commandments above gold, yea, above fine gold. Therefore, I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right; and I hate every false way.”

Psalm 119: 127-128
