The Holy Spirit
Understanding Better
The Holy Spirit is a complex subject. This shouldn’t really be a surprise since the Father is so complex and complete and it’s his spirit. Investigate this page thoroughly! It gives a pretty quick overview but covers the major points.
The main thing I want to highlight is that THE HOLY SPIRIT IS THE FATHER’S. Look in the scriptures to consider section of this page. While few in number, they reveal the reality that the nature of our interaction with the Father must be spiritual.
To accomplish this, the Father gives us what Ephesians 1:14 calls the earnest of our inheritance, a deposit of his spirit. When Christ told the disciples to wait for power from on high in Luke 24:49, this was what they were waiting for.
- The Holy Spirit was not introduced by Yeshua. Being salvation personified, he was unlimited in his endowment to live up to his name, Salvation, in addition to being the living word of the Father.
- Pentecost was not the disciples’ first time experiencing the Holy Spirit. John 20:22 records Christ breathing on them telling them to receive it.
Scriptures to consider:
Genesis 1: 1-2
“In the beginning God created the heaven and earth. And the earth was without form and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.”
Psalm 139: 7
“Whither shall I go from thy spirit? Or whither flee from thy presence?”
John 4: 24
“God is a spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”
Spiritual Warfare
“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds;) casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; and having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.”
2 Corinthians 10: 3-6
The Battle is the Lord’s
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”
Ephesians 6:10-11
An Unseen Enemy
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
Ephesians 6:12
Spiritual Life
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God. And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may ne also glorified together.”
Romans 8: 14-17
