Framing Matters
During this Christian holiday season, I’m conflicted as usual. The framing of the gospel message as it has come down through Christianity starts to bug me around this time. While true Christian believers celebrate resurrection during this season, do we celebrate life or death? Do we advocate for condemnation or redemption?
Are our celebrations still connected to our lives now? The American calendar favors Christianity heavily, but do American Christians follow Christ or Christianity? On my Lost in Translation page, I detail just a few areas that we seem to ignore in practice.
I’m concerned that we’re still going through the motions of the past in spite of the evidence of the present. There seem to be more mass shootings each week in America and more unrest around the world. The overall vanity, pride, greed and violence escalating in the world is indicative of truths that many seem to have forgotten, if ever known. Know the times!
I will continue to advocate for repentance and acknowledgment of the Creator of all things in all things. This is how we truly celebrate life and resurrection, by loving our neighbors as ourselves in truth. We must advocate for justice and wisdom in our civic discourse that elevates constituents without denigrating others who may have a difference of perspective. True faith is not calendar or ratings driven!
May we no longer “go through the motions,” but truly live and walk out the scriptures in ways that draw others to the light of Christ.
Amen.
