Understanding Sin

What is sin?

Basically, sin is missing the mark or wandering off the path. A Hebrew word for sin, used two-hundred ninety-six times in the Bible, is chatta’ah, which means an offence to someone or a deviation from doing what is right. This definition includes offences against one another just as Laban sinned against Jacob, (Genesis 31:36), and is both singular and plural.

seven deadly sins

The sins in the picture above are commonly known as the seven deadly sins. A close inspection of them would reveal them all as opposites of the commandments. I mention the commandments because they help to illuminate the path that sin causes us to wander from.  Being overcome by any of these or a mixture of them requires supernatural help to re-establish righteousness. Read Ezekiel 33:10-20 for hope.

who are you? what do you choose?

The best part of about life is that we can choose as long as we are alive. I believe too much has been said about sin and not enough about how much we can live abundantly. Our Father has given us grace precisely because he knows that as people, we are weak and make a lot of mistakes. It may take time, but we can improve!
