Words Matter!

The impact of words and the evolution of their definitions with how they are applied in practice cannot be overstated. In keeping with the pattern of Ruwach Emeth, I want to shine a little more light on the words: Christ and anointed. I believe these words have been used in ways that confuse their true meanings. The main thing to remember is that our heavenly Father is the one with all the oil!

Understanding Christ

The things that we’ve been taught to value and prioritize, in some cases, are in direct contrast to the will of our heavenly Father. While we are limited in some ways by our fleshly frame, our faith connects us to that which is without limits. The Christ in us helps us to stay connected.

Our challenge is to constantly strengthen our knowledge and faith in the all-knowing, unlimited, benevolent Father that gave us life. As we live by, through, with, and for HIM, we allow ourselves to be agents of his divine will. Gradually, we allow his eternity to inhabit our frail existence in chronology.

The degree to which we stay connected to our Father, as we operate in the way we were designed to, can be identified as anointed. Submission to the Father and search for his ways and will in all things can enhance this connection. This anointing can also be gifted to us as a way to guide us.

Often, our challenge is to be surrendered to the Father so that we don’t misuse his gifts. We must also remain humble so that we don’t allow our pride to drive us, allowing others to use and abuse our gifts too. It is paramount to recognize that the oil comes from the Father of ALL.

Christ or Mashiach? Does it Matter?

[Strong’s Dictionary of Bible Words source of definitions]

  • machiyach – anointed; usually a consecrated person
  • mashach – to rub with oil; to consecrate; to smear
  • chrio – to smear or rub with oil; consecrate
  • Christos – anointed {used 569 times in the Bible}

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him I was helped, and my heart exulted, so I will glorify him with my song. The Lord is their strength; he is stronghold for the deliverance of his anointed. Deliver and bless your very own people; tend them and sustain them forever.”

Psalm 28:7-9
